Blue Valley – Stilwell used three Justin Fulks touchdown runs to blowout Olathe South 42-14. Tiger Quarterback Anthony Abenoja started the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Matt Hamblin as Blue Valley raced out to a 21-0 lead. Abenoja would rush for two more scores as the Tigers put themselves in a position to secure a playoff spot with a week 9 win over Blue Valley West. Despite the Tigers 2-6 record, they are a dangerous team as their losses have come to opponents who are a combined 41-7.
Olathe East outscored Blue Valley North 49-35 in a shootout that featured 49 fourth quarter points. The Hawks entered that wild fourth quarter with a 28-7 lead before alternating the final seven touchdowns. Mustang signal-caller Danny Dolan completed 23 of 39 passes for 323 yards and four touchdowns in the losing effort. The Hawks featured a pair of 100 yard rushers in Hayden Groves (166) and Brandon Willingham (159). Each added a pair of touchdowns.
The Goddard Lions took their first step in duplicating last season’s late playoff push by upsetting Garden City 21-14. Quarterback Tyler Matthews threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to help the Lions to their first win of the season. Cameron Fisher caught 7 balls for 90 yards and a touchdown for Goddard. Garden City Quarterback Cody Bernbeck threw for 187 yards and a touchdown in the losing effort.
Wichita South (5-3) continued their surprising turnaround under first year coach Cory Brack with a 12-9 victory over Haysville Campus to earn the school's first playoff berth since 1971 and set-up a district championship match with Wichita Northwest. The Titans held the Colts to minus 5 yards rushing in the win while South's DuWayne Kelly rushed for 76 yards on 22 carries including a 10-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Zack Villarreal added the other score for the Titans, also in the third quarter.
Derby and fourth year head coach Brandon Clark locked up their third consecutive playoff appearance with a 27-14 win over Wichita East Friday night. Senior running back Jameson Moore rushed for 88 yards on 19 carries and scored all four of the Panthers' touchdowns in the win. Derby (6-2) now plays Wichita Heights for the district championship.

Pittsburg scored early and often in a 52-6 win over Ottawa on senior night at Hutchinson Field. Kennan Soles gave the home crowd one last electrifying performance as he rushed for a touchdown, caught two touchdown passes, and returned an interception for a fourth score all in the first half. Soles ended the half and the game with 198 total yards. The Purple Dragons must now pull off a road win at St. Thomas Aquinas to earn a playoff spot.
Mark Kolmer broke loose for 238 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries as Emporia edged Salina Central 32-28. Kolmer added a 75-yard fumble return for a score in the first half. The two teams combined for 888 total yards; 654 on the ground. The win puts the Spartans in the playoffs and sets up a week 9 district title showdown with Salina South on Friday night in Salina.
Dyllon Knox rushed for 218 yards and two scores as Kapaun Mt. Carmel held off Winfield 28-21 at Cessna Stadium on Friday night. Tanner Bailey connected for 141 yards and a last second touchdown to Ceth Bannister to pace the Vikings.
Liberal clinched a playoff spot with a 47-13 win over Wichita West. Michael Cummins led the Redskins with 136 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, while Slader McVey passed for 228 yard and two more scores. Liberal will host Bishop Carroll for the district championship Friday night.
Torrel Saffold rushed for 177 yards and Armand Brisbane ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as KC Sumner knocked off KC Harmon 30-14. The Sabres scored in every quarter in evening up their district record at 1-1. Sumner can secure a playoff spot with at win at Wyandotte this week.

Matt Bromley rushed for 206 yards as Independence rallied to beat Fredonia 42-20 to clinch the District 8 championship. Peyton Botts added 183 yards through the air for the Bulldogs who made the playoffs for the third consecutive year after breaking their long losing streak.
Topeka Hayden had just stopped Abilene on fourth down at the 11 yard line and looked to run out the clock with a 20-14 lead and only 4:30 left. As Hayden was waiting to milking the play clock, and errant snap from center went into the end zone and the Cowboys recovered for the deciding score in a 21-20 win. Abilene scored all 21 points in the second half in rallying from a 14-0 deficit. Jordon Ward led the Cowboys with 94 yards rushing on a dozen carries.
All of the scoring took place in the fourth quarter as Josh Rodriguez’s two point conversion proved to be the difference in the Ulysses Tigers’ 14-12 win over Pratt. The win sets up the Tigers in a district title match this Thursday against undefeated Hugoton.
Brandon Leppke threw for 235 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 119 yards and two more scores as Basehor-Linwood eliminated Bishop Ward 34-21. Colin Murphy was on the receiving end of Leppke’s first two scores as the Bobcats built a 28-13 halftime lead. Alex Orel for a pair of touchdowns to pace the Cyclones.
Baldwin rushed for 421 yards in a 36-21 win over Perry-Lecompton in a battle of teams struggling with new rosters following deep playoff runs a year ago. The Bulldogs started this season 0-6 before winning their last two games to qualify for the playoffs. Baldwin will host Frontier League rival Eudora to decide the 4A District 4 title on Thursday night.

Quarterback Dylan Shalberg scored on a 4-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter to provide the only offensive points as Lakin knocked off Holcomb 9-0. The Broncs defense capped the scoring by sacking Longhorn Quarterback Clay Gilbert in the end zone for a safety in the fourth quarter.
For the second straight year, Caney Valley entered district play undefeated only to fall to a CNC team. This year, Riverton rode its defense to a 36-8 win in holding the Bullpups to just 165 total yards and forcing five turnovers. Matt Tyree again paced the Ram ground attack with 108 yards on 19 carries. Chase Meade put the game away with a 94-yard interception return for a touchdown with 1:45 left. Caney Valley entered the game averaging nearly 43 points per game.
Southeast of Saline rebounded from an upset at the hands of Hillsboro in the district opener and used a physical defense to blank Marion 16-0 and keep their playoff hopes alive. The Trojans held Marion to 140 total yards in the game and Brant Weaver accounted for eight of Southeast's 16 points with a 47-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and a two-point conversion run following Bryant Beneke's short touchdown run on the second possession of the game.
Sophomore running back Keith Marquardt rushed for 230 yards and three touchdowns as Erie shutout Southeast-Cherokee in Cherokee Friday night. The win lifts the Red Devils to 3-5 on the year, and sets up a match-up with Frontenac with the winner earning the second playoff spot in District 2.
Brandon Barnes rushed for 207 yards and two touchdowns as Oskaloosa shutout Jefferson Co. North 37-0. The Bears can clinch a playoff spot with a victory over one-win McLouth in week 9.

Jayce Cook rushed for 220 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries as Atwood-Rawlins Co. blasted Syracuse 52-14 in District 15 play. Cook scored on runs of 43 and 31 yards in the first half as the Buffaloes built a 31-8 lead. Atwood will now face rival St. Francis for the district championship on Thursday night.
The Ell Saline Cardinals suffered a non-district upset at the hands of the Washington County Tigers 19-14 at Washington on Friday night. Washington scored touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters to overcome a 14-7 halftime deficit. The Tigers (4-4) were coming off a three-game losing streak with lopsided losses to 2A powers Centralia and Smith Center the past two weeks while Ell-Saline (6-2) has already secured a trip to the playoffs in District 12, but play Sterling for the district championship Thursday night.
Sterling secured a playoff spot with a 28-14 win over Inman in 2-1A District 12. Brant Patterson rushed for 163 yards and Matt Foster added 136 yards on the ground for the Black Bears who won their second straight.
Sublette got 149 yards and a touchdown from Mason Hibbard as the Larks won at Stanton County 28-12. Sublette will make the short trip to Satanta where a victory over the winless Indians will send the Larks back to the playoffs. Stanton County will travel to Elkhart to take on the Wildcats.
Trent Raile rushed for four touchdowns as St. Francis outscored Leoti-Wichita Co. 49-20 in District 15 play. The Indians raced out to a 43-12 halftime lead behind Raile TD runs of 70, 6, and 4 yards. St. Francis will now travel to Atwood for the district title game against the Buffaloes.
Centralia exploded for 34 points in the second quarter in a 52-14 rout of Wathena. Tyler Glatczak connected with Michael Glatczak for two touchdown passes including a 93-yard first quarter strike as the Panthers improved to 7-1. Tyler Gleason added touchdown runs of 1-yard and 49 yards during the second quarter outburst.

Goessel scored all 56 points in the middle two quarters in a 52-36 win over Canton-Galva. Neal Brubacher completed 11 of 16 passes for 155 yards and four touchdowns, and Cameron Stultz added three touchdowns on the ground for the Bluebirds. The Eagles were led by Bryant Baldwin who rushed for 135 yards and three scores. The win clinched a playoff spot for Goessel, and sets up a district championship game with undefeated Pretty Prairie.
Pratt Skyline scored 28 fourth quarter points in rallying from a 24-0 hole to shock Greensburg 34-30. Trent Befort followed up his historical nine touchdown performance last week with 144 yards rushing and three touchdowns. The win gives Skyline a chance to steal a playoff spot in District 5 if they can pull off a road win at struggling Jetmore.
Zach Hibbert scored two fourth quarter touchdowns as South Gray broke a 14-14 tie to beat Deerfield 26-14. Cris Martinez led the young Spartans with 68 yards rushing and a touchdown.
The Marais Des Cygnes Valley Trojans picked up their first win of the season with a 54-22 win at Elwood. Big tight end Michael Zabel caught four Patrick Engelken touchdown passes as the Trojans exploded for three touchdowns in the second and fourth quarters. Bryson Wilson threw three touchdown passes for the Panthers in a losing effort.
Jonathan Miller threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns and added 109 yards and two more touchdowns on the ground as Tribune-Greeley Co. knocked off Ingalls 46-16. Tribune can secure the district runner-up playoff spot with a win over Deerfield on Thursday night.
8M-II
Colby Taglialeta rushed for 262 yards and four touchdowns as Cedar Vale hammered Norwich in district play. The Broncos’ Mason Ridgeway added five total touchdowns including three rushing, one receiving, and a 60-yard kickoff return for a score.
Corey Dunlap threw for 273 yards and four touchdowns for Natoma, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Pawnee Heights in a 44-40 win for the Tigers from Rozel. Natoma scored 26 points in the second quarter behind Dunlap’s right arm to take a 34-30 halftime lead. Pawnee Heights would limit Natoma to just a single touchdown in the second half to preserve the win.
Grinnell-Wheatland scored 22 points in the second quarter in a 30-14 win over Northern Valley. Logan Stephens rushed for 143 yards and two scores on 23 carries as the Thunderhawks got their third win of the season. Quarterback Austin Herman rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown for the Huskies, but was interception four times by the Thunderhawks.
The Beloit St. John's-Tipton Blujays improved to 8-0 with a 60-14 shellacking of Sylvan Unified Friday securing a district championship in the process. The Blujays led 38-14 at halftime and put the game away in the third quarter holding the Mustangs off the scoreboard in the second half of a game ended by the 45 point mercy rule. The Blujays close the regular season against a Lucas-Luray team which posted its first win of the season over Tescott last Friday. The Mustangs (6-2) got touchdowns from Eric Nitsch and Caleb Hirsch in the loss.
Hope got a key district victory in a rare 8-Man defensive battle against Axtell Friday. The Lions held visiting Axtell to 105 total yards and got a two-yard Casey Schardein touchdown in the second quarter followed by an Aaron Davis two-point conversion to take the 8-0 lead. The win ties the Lions with Axtell at 3-1 in District 1 with their final game coming against winless Bern. The Eagles, on the other hand, play host to 8-Man II top-ranked Hanover - a team that beat Hope 60-12 in week six.
