Olathe Northwest’s Maddie Righter came into the season as the favorite in 6A to win the state championship in both the high jump and long jump. Teammate Jaleesa McWashington is Righter’s closest competition in the long jump. McWashington is also the top returning state medalist in the triple jump.

The Kansas Eight-Man Football Association's annual State Powerlifting Championship is one of the largest competitions of its kind in the state.

Entering Monday's doubleheader, it was clear the top two teams in Class 4A were Andale/Garden Plain and Augusta, although in which order had yet to be determined. Both teams were looking like championship frontrunners at 14-0, and for the most part neither team had been challenged.

SALINA – Maize junior running back Caden Cox broke his foot last July 2 and had surgery the next day. Cox remained in a cast two days before the Eagles’ season-opening contest against Valley Center.

Update: Another meet, another record for spring covergirl Madison Lueger. Marysville Advocate sportswriter Julie Perry reported earlier this week that the Centralia senior extended her school record in the javelin yet again, this time throwing 157-2 at Tuesday's meet at Nemaha Central.
