The Spring Sports Preview softball covergirls showed why they are among the best in Kansas with a strong start to the season.

Even though Wellington started the year with a pair of losses to Augusta the Crusaders got a solid pitching performance from covergirl Brooke McCorkle, a Mississippi Valley State commit, in a 1-0 loss in the first game of a doubleheader. McCorkle pitched a complete game allowing just four hits with three strikeouts and zero earned runs and got great defensive support, but the Crusaders couldn't find any offense. Augusta dominated the second game of the doubleheader 15-4.

In a Monday, April 1st road trip to Buhler the ladies fared much better as McCorkle pitched a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts in a 6-1 victory in the top-half of a doubleheader. Fellow covergirl Jacelyn Buck was 2-for-2 with two walks while scoring twice and recording an RBI. Buck hit a double and recorded three stolen bases in the contest.

In game two Rylee Rusk recorded a five inning no-hitter with seven strikeouts as Wellington won 11-0 to sweep Buhler and improve to 2-2 on the season. Buck was 0-3 but got on base with a walk and scored a run. She also recorded an RBI. McCorkle was 1-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Rusk also went 2-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Airalyn Frame led Wellington in game two going 3-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored.

Notre Dame commit Macie Eck showed why she is among the elite softball players in the state when she hit three homeruns - that's right, three bombs in one game - for the Andale/Garden Plain softball team in game two of a dominant two game sweep of Mulvane on April 4th. A/GP won the first game 17-2 and the second game 19-0 as Eck recorded five total hits and nine total RBI in the two games.
