Derby improved to 2-0 with a 55-13 rout of Hutchinson, piling up 443 yards of offense, including 341 on the ground. The Panthers scored on their first five possessions and led 49-6 at halftime. The Grizzlies opened with a competitive 14-10 loss to Bishop Carroll, but quickly found themselves in trouble against Kapaun as the Crusaders built a 35-0 lead just 17 minutes into the game. ... Junction City and Wichita Northwest play a pivotal game for a pair of 0-2 teams that are still among the most talented in the classification. ... The Longhorns were in position to try and seal a win before a late turnover helped set up Garden Plain's go-ahead touchdown. Holcomb remains one of the most talented teams in 3A despite the loss. ... Santa Fe Trail continues to dominate its early schedule, following a 49-8 win over Anderson County with a 50-2 victory over Osawatomie. Junior quarterback Rigley Sleichter rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns, Jack Gragg added two rushing scores, and Dalan Brownlee, Trevin Cox and Tanner Bolt also found the end zone on the ground. The Chargers have outscored their first two opponents 99-10. ... Hesston makes a major move after a 23-16 victory over previously unbeaten Hoisington. The Swathers are 2-0 after opening with a 35-6 win over Halstead and have allowed just 22 points through two games. Gavin Larson had a huge game for the Swathers with six catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns, plus two interceptions (including a pick-6), a forced fumble and three pass breakups. ... Hoisington drops to No. 7 after turnovers proved costly in the 23-16 loss at Hesston. The Cardinals remain a dangerous 3A team and have an immediate opportunity to rebound with No. 2 Cheney coming to Hoisington this week. ... The Raiders have allowed just 13 points through two games after opening with a 20-6 victory over Fort Scott. ... The Thunder's first two games have been decided by a combined eight points after opening with a 7-6 victory over Riley County. ... Hayden remains in the Top 10 despite an 0-2 start after following its 22-19 loss to 4A No. 3 Eudora with a 34-13 loss at 4A Tonganoxie. The Wildcats have played two quality opponents on the road to open the season, but will need to start turning competitive schedule strength into victories. ... Chapman deserves attention after improving to 2-0 with a convincing 38-13 victory over Rock Creek. Senior Audiel Becker erupted for 295 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries as the Irish handed Rock Creek its first loss of the season and improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2018. This week the Irish will face rival Abilene in one of the oldest high school football rivalries west of the Mississippi, first played in 1892. ... Wellsville is also 2-0 after shutting out Prairie View 49-0. Quarterback Pete Dorsey threw for 171 yards and two touchdowns and added 69 yards and another score on the ground. ... Pratt falls out of the Top 10 after a wild 42-41 overtime loss to a quality 2A Haven team, but the Greenbacks remain in the discussion after opening with a 36-14 victory over Circle. ... Girard and Goodland are among the other unbeaten 3A teams off to 2-0 starts. The latter one of the more surprising 2-0 starts in Kansas after the Cowboys stormed back to upset highly ranked Burlington, Colo., 38-34. Goodland trailed 34-8 with less than six minutes remaining in the third quarter before scoring the game's final 30 points. Sophomore quarterback Reid Cure threw for 370 yards and five touchdowns, while senior receiver Joseph Von Lintel caught nine passes for 224 yards and three scores. The Cowboys are 2-0 for the first time since 2013, when current head coach Dax Ruhs was a senior at Goodland.

Council Grove moves up to No. 3 after a 22-14 road victory over Osage City in a matchup of two of the classification's top teams. Bradley Doornbos scored on runs of 15 and 3 yards as the Braves built a 14-0 advantage, then caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Luke Stewart after Osage City rallied to tie the game. Stewart completed 17 of 25 passes for 221 yards as Council Grove beat Osage City for the first time since 2016. The victory also ties the highest-ranked win in program history. ... Garden Plain rebounded from its heartbreaking one-point loss to Cheney with an impressive 25-21 victory over 3A No. 4 Holcomb. Two-way standout Braylen Dold intercepted two passes, including one he returned to the Holcomb 30 before scoring the go-ahead touchdown on a 12-yard run with 5:44 remaining. The Owls rushed for 271 yards, including 101 from Eli Helten, and then ran out the final 4:51 to secure the win. ... Southeast of Saline avoided any Week 1 hangover following its dramatic comeback against Beloit, rolling to a 55-6 road victory over Lyons. Senior quarterback Tiernan Ptacek accounted for six touchdowns — three passing and three rushing — in three quarters of action. Casson Klover caught five passes for 113 yards and two scores as the Trojans piled up 514 yards of offense, including 310 on the ground. SES has now started 2-0 in nine consecutive seasons. ... Osage City falls to No. 6 after its 22-14 loss to Council Grove. The Cyclones have scored 95 points through two games after opening with a 41-28 win over Jefferson County North. ...
