Kansas Sports Hall of Fame announces 2024 class

Wichita, Kan. – Kansas Sports Hall of Fame Chairman Jim Dunning, Jr., announced today the selection of 12 individuals to be inducted, Sunday, Oct. 13 in Topeka.

The class includes seven individuals who have ties to Olympic competition, including a gold medalist, paralympic medalist and the only American to be named a head track and field starter for two Olympic Games. The group also includes national champion coaches, collegiate champions and All-Americans, and American-record holders.

Brotherly love - and competition

Brotherly love prevails here in the Hanna household, but make no mistake. Competition between Jacob and younger brother Alan fuels an inferno that can be seen for miles.

“As a brother, he's the closest to age to me so I think I can relate to him,” Alan said. “It’s like that older brother/younger brother relationship where I can say yeah I’m better than you and we can go outside and play it out.”

KBCA All-Star teams split

The Gold team won the boys' game in the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association All-Star games Saturday night, while the Blue team took the girls' contest in a pair of games played at Kansas Wesleyan's Mabee Arena. Check out a recap from KVOE sports here.

Smith gets on track in final season

Destiny greeted recent Lincoln High graduate Bentley Smith this spring and she welcomed it with open arms and sprinter’s legs.

Smith, who had never gone out for track, answered destiny’s call, and just in time, too. 

“I went out for track because my friends convinced me, along with my track coach who was the assistant coach in basketball,” the current intern for Kansas Pregame said.

So in March, she listened to her teammates and coach. She donned the Leopard track uniform for the first time.

State basketball sites selected for 2025

The Kansas State High School Activities Association has selected sites for the 2025 KSHSAA state basketball championships. All seven sites have hosted at least once previously. 

After hosting the 1A Division I state championships last season, the Colby Event Center has been selected to host the 1A Division II state championships in 2025. The 2A tournaments will return to their traditional home at Bramlage Coliseum after a year’s hiatus.
