Mammoth Sports Construction continues growth

Mammoth Sports Construction, based in Meriden, Kan., continues to expand statewide and across the Midwest.

It’s late Thursday morning and Brian Morris is heading down the interstate. Much of his day will be spent behind the wheel before finally pulling into the driveway of his own home, which is still two states away.

As Mammoth Sports Construction’s vice president of professional and collegiate operations, Morris is on the road a lot these days building relationships with the company’s growing clientele.

Forty-eight high school basketball teams in Kansas saw their season come to an unceremonious end in March as the decision was made to pull the plug on the state tournament after the quarterfinals because of concerns surrounding the spread of the coronavirus.

Tearful athletes hugged teammates, family, and coaches and mourned the loss of the semifinals and finals that ended without the chirp of a whistle, squeak of a sneaker or roar of a crowd.

Lisa Jennison grew up in Healy in a family that valued faith and athletics. The family attended the United Methodist Church in Healy, a town of 234 people located 24 miles from Scott City.

Her mother, Diana, has long served as a positive influence. Lisa’s father, Richard, stands 6-foot-8 and played basketball at Garden City Community College, and both her brothers were also involved in sports.

Macon's mix of leadership and athleticism drives Washington

On March 10, Kansas City-Washington football players Cory Macon and Jalen Spencer earned National Honor Society induction for the 2019-20 school year. Macon, with a cumulative 3.8 grade-point average, finished the semester with a 4.0. 

Last season, Macon and Spencer helped Washington football post a 6-3 mark, the first winning year for the program since ’14, and the most single season victories by the Wildcats in 15 years.
