Devin Hedgepeth was an elite defensive back who also excelled in the classroom, and after graduating from Derby High School in 2010 he accepted a football scholarship to Oklahoma State University where he would play his way into a starting role as a true freshman. But three Achilles tendon surgeries later he was forced to walk away from the game he loved and a give up his dream of playing professionally.
After 13 years publishing the only statewide high school football preview for the Sunflower State, Kansas Pregame expanded into winter sports coverage last season with their new Kansas Pregame Winter Sports Preview. Kansas Pregame continued their expansion with the recent launch of their new website, KansasPregame.com. Now Kansas Pregame continues their expansion efforts with work on a new Spring Sports Preview, which will preview the baseball, softball, and track & field seasons in Kansas, set to publish in late March.
Derby Informer Sports reports that Kansas Pregame Winter Sports Preview covergirl Kennedy Brown was selected to play in the McDonald’s All-American Game in March.
Widely regarded as the most prestigious high school basketball all-star game in the country, the McDonald's All-American Game features the top 24 players in the country. The Informer reports that Brown is the first KSHSAA sanctioned girls’ player to be selected to the game.
Grass has always seemed to play a part in Jake Farrant’s life.
His family has spent decades in the golf course construction and sod business. His uncle, Rick Farrant, founder and principal of GreatLIFE Golf and Fitness, has accumulated more than 20 courses in the Kansas City metro.
As a kid in Meriden, Jake grew up mowing lawns and working alongside Rick on the golf course. Following college, he returned to Meriden to work with his family.
The Bonner Springs wrestling program has a rich tradition of success with well over 100 state placers and 23 individual champions in program history. The Braves are gearing up to make another postseason run and senior 220 pounder Caleb Willis will lead the way and go down as one of the program’s all-time greats.
Currently ranked third at 220 behind Newton senior Wyatt Hendrickson and St. James Academy junior Cade Lautt, Willis is a three-time state qualifier and a two-time state finalist. In 2017 he was a state champion and in ’18 he finished runner-up with a 39-2 overall record.

Last fall we welcomed just a sampling of the state’s top athletes to a feature photo shoot at Rolling Hills Zoo west of Salina. The Zoo and Wildlife Museum made a stunning backdrop for the shoot.
