Jude Stecklein, Sylvan-Lucas

After 46 years of service as a coach, administrator, and educator, Sylvan-Lucas Unified’s Jude Stecklein decided to call it a career at the end May, and his retirement is well-deserved.

Our apologies for the delay in this week's rankings release, work on one of our flagship products, our annual Winter Edition previewing the upcoming basketball and wrestling season, was top priority. Now, here's a look at our take on the weekly football rankings with just a few brief notes.

Class 6A

1. Manhattan (5-0)
2. Derby (4-1)
3. Wichita Northwest (4-1)
4. Olathe North (5-0)
5. Junction City (5-1)

Bad Behavior by Coaches, Parents and Fans Must Stop

There’s an unfortunate trend continuing in Kansas and across the nation that must be stopped: the bad behavior of coaches, parents and fans at high school athletic events.

We’ve all seen it: the yelling, harassing, berating, disrespecting and even physically assaulting high school referees, umpires and other officials during and after games. And oftentimes, the harassment continues on social media. Perhaps you’ve witnessed it firsthand or even been one of those offenders yourself.

Three weeks of the season completed and many of the favorites solidified their position at the top of the rankings after quality wins. For the smaller classes district play begins to heat up this week and the playoff picture begins to take shape.
